The Buffalo Sabres are turning back the clock.

The Sabres announced the return of their black and red bison logo as their third alternate jersey for the upcoming season.

An updated version of the jerseys will officially drop in November and be worn for 12 home games this season.

Buffalo sported the original jerseys from 1996-2006. They went 345-279-114 in 738 regular season games while wearing the jerseys. They also reached the 1999 Stanley Cup Final.

Sabres forward Alex Tuch was excited by the announcement.

"Can't wait to put those on," Tuch said in a Twitter video posted by the Sabres. Tuch, who grew up a Sabres fan, said all the posters in his room as a kid were of the black and red era jerseys.

The Sabres joked on Twitter that Tuch was the reason they were returning to the era, posting an interview clip of him talking about bringing the uniforms back.

Past and present Sabres players took to social media to approve the move.

Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons tweeted out a bison pencil case he had growing up.

Former Sabres goalie Martin Biron tweeted out a throwback picture of him sporting the classic uniforms.

One thing is for sure, the Sabres cannot wait until November.
