STORY CITY — The Class 2A No. 4 West Marshall football team rolled to 7-0 with a 41-7 shellacking of Roland-Story (4-3, 3-1) on Friday night.

The Trojans improved to 4-0 in District 7 with a decisive win, jumping out to a 34-7 halftime lead and cruising from there. Quarterback Peyton Hart was 7-for-12 passing for 179 yards and three touchdowns, connecting twice with Caden Vellinga and once with Grahm Nason for scores.

Sophomore tailback Ben Gonzalez piled up 207 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, and Hart had 71 yards on 13 carries. Nason finished with four receptions for 113 yards as West Marshall amassed 492 yards of total offense and didn’t turn the ball over.

Miles Moore led the defense with 6.5 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and two quarterback sacks, while Vellinga had six stops as well as an interception.

Mustangs run out of gas against South Hardin

LE GRAND — The East Marshall football team started fast but fell short against South Hardin, 53-20, in Friday’s Class 1A District 3 clash.

Jacob Farrington was 15-for-26 passing for 186 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs (0-7, 0-4). Hunter Postel had a 20-yard touchdown reception and Wyatt Benson added a 2-yard TD grab, but East Marshall couldn’t keep pace. South Hardin (3-4, 2-2) had 481 yards of total offense and pulled away for the victory.

Tyler Fuller rushed eight times for 49 yards and a touchdown for East Marshall. Benson had nine catches for 62 yards, while Adrian Arifi and Postel both had 51 yards worth of receptions.

Gage Overton led the Mustang defense with 7.5 tackles and Benson had 6.5 stops.

Josh Vander Wilt was 15-for-24 passing for 265 yards and three touchdowns, and Peyton Welch tossed a TD pass in the fourth quarter as well. Ethan Klendworth led the Tigers’ receiving corps with seven catches for 145 yards, and Bo Star had four catches for 96 yards and three TDs.

Wapsie Valley stifles North Tama football, 41-0

FAIRBANK — The North Tama football team suffered its sixth straight defeat in a 41-0 shutout loss to Wapsie Valley in Friday’s Class A District 3 contest.

The host Warriors (5-2, 4-1) used a balanced offense and suffocating defense to take the win, holding the Redhawks (1-6, 0-5) to 92 yards of total offense. North Tama passed for 47 yards and ran for 45 more in its fourth shutout loss of the fall.

Michael Schrier led the Redhawks with 23 carries for 84 yards, and he was 7-for-12 passing for 18 yards. Kolt Knaack was 3-for-6 passing for 29 yards, and Josh Dostal was the top receiver with two grabs for 34 yards.

Schrier and Logan Siemens led the North Tama defense with six tackles apiece. Jared Dvorak and Keegan Brooks both had an interception.

Braden Knight rushed 13 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns and had one 64-yard touchdown reception to lead Wapsie Valley to victory.

Dunkerton outscores winless GMG, 86-36

DUNKERTON — The GMG football team scored a season-high but surrendered a season-high in an 86-36 loss to Dunkerton in a battle between winless 8-Man District 4 squads.

The host Raiders (1-6) outscored GMG (0-7) by a 56-14 margin in the second half to break away from a one-score lead at halftime, taking advantage of the Wolverines’ four turnovers along the way.

Colin Teske finished 17-for-30 passing for 220 yards and three touchdowns for GMG, and he also ran 15 times for 219 yards and two more scores. Jabari Woodbury was his favorite target, connecting with the junior tight end 11 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Kaleb Gill also had a receiving touchdown in the loss.

Brenden Becker had six tackles and 1.5 quarterback sacks to lead the GMG defense, which surrendered 416 yards of rushing to the Raiders. Dunkerton’s Ty Lindquist ran 12 times for 188 yards and two TDs, quarterback Braiden VanLengen had 16 carries for 121 yards and three TDs, and Radley Fulton added nine carries for 108 yards and one score.

VanLengen returned a kickoff 64 yards for a touchdown and also was 5-for-6 passing for 136 yards and four touchdowns, all four going to Cristian Brown.
